Thank you everyone for your advice, it really is helping me out, even though I keep changing my mind ;) I just don't want to make the wrong decision and be stuck with a camera that I'm not happy with... You know? It's a big investment, and I know you're probably sick of reading about it, but this is a big deal.

I've narrowed it down to these two (my grandmother and grandfather agreed)
Canon EOS 30D DSLR - 1,399.99
Nikon D200 DSLR - 1,699.99

Now, I have a few questions.
1. Is that 30D the Canon that doesn't come out until September? If so, I'm not able to wait that long (because of classes)
2. What are some good lenses that you could recommend to me? Keep in mind, that we are not millionaires, but I need to know of some good lenses that are a decent price... And since I know NOTHING about lenses, I figure some of you might.
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Canon and Nikon? The brands, not the models.
4. What would be a good flash to purchase since I'll be doing a lot of live band photography?
5. Do both of those cameras have dust reduction feature? I'll probably need this since I'll be in a lot of bars and clubs.

I've always loved the vibrant pictures of live bands like this and hope that some day I might even be able to take beautiful photos like that.

Thank you!

The more i look, the more I keep changing my mind on what I want and what I don't want. As I mentioned before, my body limit is $1,000, so these are the cameras I've chosen. I'd like your advice on which camera I should choose. I've asked a few photographers, and each of them told me to go with either a Nikon or a Canon, so I most likely will...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 - $899.99 (10.2 megapixel, 2.5" LCD screen, Autofocus system, Carl Zeiss lens, High sensitivity, Image stabilization)
Olympus Evolt E-500 - $799.99 (8 megapixel, SLR, Pop-up built-in flash, 2.5" HyperCrystal LCD, Includes 2 Zuiko lenses, Dust-free pictures)
Canon Digital Rebel XT DSLR - $799.99 (8.0 megapixel, Seven-point autofocus, 1.8" LCD, EF-S 18-55mm lens, PictBridge-enabled)
Nikon D70 DSLR - $799.90 (6.1 megapixel, Five-sensor AF, 2" LCD, AF-S DX 18-55mm lens, i-TTL Speedlight)

*****
Note About the Above: I want a Nikon badly, but I don't like how it only has 6.1 megapixels. What do you guys think about that? That's probably the only thing holding me back from getting that Nikon...

Now, the two listed below will be my choices if I can somehow talk my grandparents in to paying for a little more than half of the camera, but I don't know which one to choose, so I'd appreciate it if you guys would help me out a little bit.

Nikon D200 DSLR - $1,699.99 (10.2 megapixel, 5fps continuous shooting, 2.5" wide-angle LCD, Large optical viewfinder, Fast SLR response)
Canon EOS 30D DSLR - $1,259 (8.2 megapixel, 9-point autofocus, 2.5" LCD screen, Multi-lens compatable, Continuous shooting)

The kind of photography I'm most interested in doing is band photography (live, band shots), and portraits, of course, I'll also do anything else that is thrown at me, but those are the two things I'm most interested in. I'm curious though, do most cameras have that dust reduction feature? I'll be doing a lot of live band shots in smoky bars, is why I'm asking, and I hate taking a good live shot, but then realizing that the smokey atmosphere ruins it.

*****
Also, what about ordering things from places like 17th Street Photo for a better price? Anyone know if that would be a good idea or not?

Okay, so these are the cameras I'm looking at. If any of you are in to photography, I'd like your input. Keep in mind, I'm going to college this fall, and I'll be taking photography classes, and after that I'm persuing professional photography. That's my life goal... So, these are pricy.

SONY ALPHA DSLR-A100K Starter Kit DSLR-A100KKT1 (Price - $1298.99)
Olympus EVOLT E-500 (Price - $799.99)
CANON EOS 5D (Price - Can't Find it)
Nikon D200 Set (Price - $1699.95 ESP1 Camera body only, lens sold separately) This one is kind of hopeless, since the highest price I can go is around $1,000 for the camera itself. But hey, it's nice to dream.

I don't know much about these cameras, so please help me out and tell me which would be better for what I want to do, because I don't want to make a bad decision. If you know of a better camera then any of those, feel free to comment with a link so I can check that out as well. The kind of photography I want to do the most is concert photography, and possibly group shots of bands and maybe models.

* I can go up to $1,000 on the camera body itself

My Behemoth community

I was searching looking for a good Behemoth community on Livejournal, but I didn't find one. Please post the link in your userinfos, link to it at a community, or show your friends the community...

I have lost touch with Livejournal. I feel horrible, but I'm always posting on Greatestjournal because I have a lot of close friends over there. Don't get me wrong, I have a few close friends here on LJ, but I'm always forgetting to update here, and when I do it feels forced. I haven't read my friends page in ages, not because I don't care, because I do, but more because I forget.

Greatestjournal is more appealing to me because you can get a lot of things there that you'd have to pay for here. Styles are free, you get 2000+ userpictures, having a well-known graphic journal on GJ is a lot easier than having on here because it feels better when twenty people comment to use your icons (Greatestjournal) rather than three (Livejournal).

I'll still stay on here... Just give me a little bit to get my shit together, read my friends journals, and catch up. I feel bad, because there are some people on here I care about, but have been neglectant to our friendships... I apologize.

I will return shortly. I hope.
By the way, I've re-done my userinfo.

I know I'm not any good at photography, but I made a journal to post the pictures I take so I can sort of see my progress, and you guys might as well be able to see it too. Maybe you could even give me some pointers. It would be lovely if you'd join :)
